General Information on Momentum in a Current-Carrying Coil

The result is due to momentum. When the iron core rests on the scale pan or hovers within the coil, its weight force acts on the balance beam. If the iron core is drawn into the coil, a greater force must act on the coil and, consequently, on the balance beam. Due to this temporarily increased force, the scale momentarily goes out of balance.
