General Information on Momentum (Fly)
The result is due to momentum. When the fly rises within the glass, the scale reacts momentarily, as the force required for the fly to ascend temporarily disrupts the balance of the scale. However, when the fly hovers at a constant height, the scale returns to equilibrium because the air transmits a force onto the weighing pan equal to the fly’s weight.
