General Information on the Lorentz Force

Without a Magnetic Field
Electrons are emitted from the cathode (-). On their way to the anode (+), they are accelerated by the applied voltage. The electrons travel in a straight line.

With a Magnetic Field
The interaction with the magnetic field (e.g., that of a coil) causes a deflection of the previously straight electron beam. The magnetic field generates a Lorentz force that forces the electrons into a circular path, as seen in the demonstrated experiment, when they move perpendicular to the magnetic field.
