Genaral information on “Impulse”
This is explained by the law of action and reaction. When the iron rod is on the dish or is hovering in the coil, its weight acts on the beam of the balance. When the rod is drawn into the coil, a greater force must act on the coil and therefore also on the beam. As a result of this greater force, the balance loses its equilibrium momentarily.
